Dior looks back to the future with its latest take on Miss Dior
The Miss Dior fragrance's creation tale is famous, although very few people are aware of it. The first fragrance by the Maison was inspired by an all-encompassing sensory experience that Christian Dior had while lying under the summer moon, surrounded by the aroma of provençal jasmine. It's as if the stars themselves wrote its origin story.
The Parisian house's youthful spirit was to be perpetuated through the decades by Miss Dior, who became a beacon of innovation and the ingénue of the fragrance world. She lent her name to the fashion house's "Miss Dior" 1967 ready-to-wear collection, the first collection ever dedicated to its younger clientele who were bold enough to wear the bright colors that defined the swinging sixties.
In the decades afterward, Dior's foundation fragrance—Monseigneur Dior's "only child," as he called it—has evolved as any kid would, transcending time to maintain its youthfulness and exceptional brilliance over time. And its evolution continues today, due to another groundbreaking perfumer, Francis Kurkdjian.
Kurkdjian, who is also known for his visionary fragrances and inventive blends that not only uncover but also create new scent areas, was ready to deliver "his" Miss Dior: a parfum version of the renowned fragrance.
Christian Dior's perfume creation director drew on the fragrance's pioneering heritage to create an equally spontaneous mix.
"When Christian Dior discusses Miss Dior's inspiration, he uses forceful and evocative language. They present a fantastic overview of a story that still connects Dior and perfume, as well as Dior and the South of France that he so adored." Kurkdjian emphasizes the necessity of preserving Miss Dior's ethos and spirit. "They evoke the scents of nature and the beauty of a magical, gently starlit night." It's as if you can smell jasmine in the air. This image and the joy of the senses inspired and drove me to revisit and rebuild the composition of this renowned scent, "my" Miss Dior.
Jasmine is once again the beginning point for his parfum, which is understandable given Kurkdjian's desire to reimagine the past. Floral and decadent undertones dominate the new Miss Dior fragrance, striking sharply with each spray. Sweet notes of wild strawberry, peach, and apricot linger on the tongue like a bite of fruit, and once they've settled, sensual flowers return to engulf you, leaving a lasting recollection of rich ambers and woods.
Regardless of the iteration, Miss Dior remains "the young perfume of the house, forever." It is a legacy that Kurkdjian has maintained at the heart of Miss Dior Parfum. "Creating a new Miss Dior fragrance is about conveying the young generation of one's age. It is also about fully embracing the House of Dior. "No more, no less!"
As Kurkdjian takes on the role of scent legend, we see the truth in Dior's long-held idea that everything must change in order for nothing to change. Discover the new Miss Dior Parfum at Dior.com.au.
